Recovery & return

Your rehabilitation and follow-up depend on your treatment and progress. Your team will advise when to walk, drive and return to sport.

Plan your recovery
What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring relevant reports and scans, a current medication list, and details of previous treatment. Think about when symptoms began, what makes them worse and the activities you most want to return to. Check the clinic’s referral and insurance requirements before attending.

Does seeing a surgeon mean I need surgery?

No. Many foot and ankle problems can be managed without an operation. If surgery is an option, the discussion should cover its purpose, alternatives, likely recovery and possible complications so you can make an informed decision.

When can I walk, drive or return to sport?

This varies with the condition, the treatment and your progress. Follow your treating team’s instructions about weight-bearing and wound care. Driving and return to sport need a separate assessment of safety and function; there is no single timetable that suits everyone.
